Our Educational Philosophy
The Westside Christian School academic program is rather unique! WCS looks at each student as an individual learner, so our academic program is designed to meet each childs unique academic needs. At WCS, our students have the opportunity to take courses reflecting their own strengths and weaknesses at skill levels appropriate for them. We help each student reach their full personal potential by focusing on their strengths and using their own unique gifts to encourage and motivate them. Their self-esteem and confidence develop while building a foundation for future successes.WCS uses a variety of textbook and curriculum publishers to offer our students the most effective, quality, and up-to-date resources. Our teachers utilize experiential, multi-modal and traditional teaching in all of their lessons. They use computers, games, videos, contests, field trips and experiments to bring lessons to life. All courses will be at levels appropriate for the students academic skill level, while allowing high school students to earn the appropriate credits needed for graduation. The administrator will tailor each students schedule to their unique abilities and interests. Small class sizes and periodic assessments ensure that no student is left behind. Our approach to learning and educational philosophy ensures it.The administrator will work closely with high school students and their parents to plan for each students future educational and career goals. Dual enrollment, internships, volunteer work and community outreach programs may be an option for a student and will broaden the students educational, career, and personal growth opportunities.

Curriculum
Westside Christian School incorporates a variety of textbook and curriculum publishers to provide a wide range of resources in each subject area. We do not used boxed curriculum sets. All course curriculum is selected because of its proven effectiveness in the classroom. Westside Christian School prides itself on the fact that we are not married to any one curriculum publisher. We will always provide resources and curriculum that offer the most accurate and up-to-date information available. In addition to textbooks, WCS also utilizes virtual classes as well as blended classes (classroom time & virtual learning) as options for students who need specialized instruction in a course, increased flexibility or advanced learners.

Chapel
Although WCS is a ministry of Westside Church of the Nazarene, WCS serves students from a variety of backgrounds without denominational distinctions. We provide a program that meets our students academic, social, physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. We provide a solid Christian foundation, not only for success in school, but also for success in a very challenging world. All students attend bible classes and we have a weekly school wide chapel service. Chapel features a message by pastors, missionaries, ministry leaders, counselors and guest speakers. Special presentations, video, or vocal performances may be included. Family members and guests are encouraged to join us during our chapel services.

Students with Special Needs
Westside Christian School practices Inclusion, meaning that we educate students with and without disabilities together. Students with disabilities have access to the general ed. curriculum, classrooms, school settings and activities. At WCS, there is no labeling, instead students work together in an atmosphere of acceptance and tolerance. We have a variety of options for students with exceptionalities and differences. WCS will accept students with disabilities or special needs. The student will be placed in classes based on their academic, social, and emotional levels. While most of our students with special needs fit nicely into the structure of our traditional classes, some may be better served in a specialized classroom. Once we meet the student, complete assessments, and have a history, we will determine the placement best suited for the student. The Promise ProgramAutism & Special Needs The Promise Program was specially designed for children with autism who are best served in a specialized classroom with specialized instructors. Other disabilities may also be included in this program. Our Promise faculty are trained in varying exceptionalities, disabilities, and autism. We call them the promise students, because each holds the promise of God's grace and love within them. We want to teach them to have a happy and productive life. The Promise students spend their day working on academics and life skills in their own classroom. The Promise students are given opportunities to socialize with our student body throughout the week and participate in many school-wide activities. The Westside Christian School atmosphere offers a family feeling that is nonthreatening and safe to students. We are happy to provide parent references so you can learn for yourself the difference that WCS has made in their childs life.
